Intro

Benderloch is one of the villages that will benefit from the rollout of 'superfast' fibre broadband to rural areas of Scotland. The first FTTC 'superfast fibre broadband' cabinet went live in December 2015, with new cabinets being installed through 2017 to convert Exchange Only lines into FTTC connections.

Rural areas traditionally have large proportions of users on long 'exchange only' copper telephone lines, so there are technical and practical hurdles to providing 'superfast' FTTC connections to all.

This blog documents my findings on the rollout of FTTC to the area, and alternative internet access solutions for premises that will not benefit from the FTTC rollout.

In this blog, I refer to 'superfast broadband', 'fibre broadband', 'FTTC' and 'FTTP' . These all refer to the  new broadband that is to be rolled out at the Ledaig , and nearby Taynuilt and Connel exchanges in August 2014

Information is from various sources and should be checked for accuracy before use.
